Mentally Scarring My Offspring

I am getting the impression my 16 year old has a complex. She recently saw the stack of unpaid medical bills from the past couple years and was dismayed because she was the primary recipient.

2014: between myself and three daughters we had 2 broken wrists, two surgeries and 2 concussions. The entire summer, not a week went by without some hospital visit or procedure. She alone has had over 100 x-rays plus CT scans and MRIs.

She still feels broken. Her classmates think its fun to pick on her. At one time she thought it was hilarious and could beat them to the punchline. Now, its old, hurtful and causing some depression.

Then I go and make a comment about braces and how expensive dental work will be.. dumb. She looks across to me and genuinely inquires, “Do you regret having kids?”  Ugh, knife to heart! Of course, I say, “No.”

I have been a Lorain county resident for five years now. Anywhere you go you can see quintessential American life in our backyard. From scarecrows to Organized Labor Day, from urban decay to rural homesteading, and my question has been, "Where is the joy?!" People need more reasons to smile. While I am committed to educating and empowering people, I promise this blog will always share the hope and joy I have.
