Thinking Back On My Ballot

Random thinking this morning about my future career path. I love working for my church family, but the election made me reconsider postponing  my Master’s degree. I know, random right!

Well, our local election was much more contentious to me than our infamous presidential race. Not only did our public transit levy fail, but the county commission had only one contender.

I consistently vocalize my concern, “I have never seen a county strive so hard for growth and shoot itself in the foot at the same time.”

There were actually seven positions uncontested on our local offices! The amount of apathy staggers me. So how does that connect to going back to college?

Well four years ago I approached Cleveland State University for their Non-profit degree program. The advisor encouraged me to pursue Public Administration instead, “Same coursework, more universal in the workplace,” she said.  I also participated in a local program here through the Ohio Means Jobs coalition.  Through four separate assessments, focusuing on my skills, personality, values and something else…hey, its been awhile…they compile a list of suggested careers. It was very enlightening, and no, professional blogger was not on there.

The first suggestion was laughable, Director. The second, however, made me beam with optimism, Public Administration. So I am looking into it more.

Neat. Another set of statistics helped me more though, check this one out.

Not sure how long it will take but perhaps you’ll see my name on the ballot!

I have been a Lorain county resident for five years now. Anywhere you go you can see quintessential American life in our backyard. From scarecrows to Organized Labor Day, from urban decay to rural homesteading, and my question has been, "Where is the joy?!" People need more reasons to smile. While I am committed to educating and empowering people, I promise this blog will always share the hope and joy I have.
